GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — Primary election voters will head to the polls on February 27 and 20 Grand Rapids Public Schools sites will serve as polling locations.
Voters will be participating in the primary voting process to choose nominees for President of the United States. Voting officials expect a low turnout for our community.
GRPS has partnered with local election officials for many years to utilize school buildings as a safe and convenient option for voters. On most election days there is no school, but school has been in session on primary election days.
The safety of our scholars and staff as well as those coming to vote is our first priority. Those coming to vote will cast their ballot in designated areas separate from scholars. Whenever possible, a separate and distinct entrance will be used exclusively for voters.
Additional supports will be provided at polling locations to ensure a smooth and safe day. The GRPS Public Safety team has worked collaboratively with local law enforcement to develop a comprehensive security plan to provide additional support in securing GRPS election sites.
We will also utilize the support of the Grand Rapids City Clerk's office and the city’s emergency operations center to assist as needed on election day.
The GRPS community recognizes the importance of voting and equitable access to those from all walks of life who want to participate in the election process. With that being said, we will continue to monitor the district’s participation in this work to ensure it is in the best interest of the families we serve.
