GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- The second Public Hearing on Sex Education Curriculum will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, at 5:30 p.m., at GRPS University (1400 Fuller Ave. NE).

This is the second of two hearings regarding proposed updates to the district's sex education curriculum.

The public hearings are required by state law whenever a school district considers changes to its sex education curriculum. The hearing will begin with a brief overview of the proposed updates, followed by time for public comment.

The GRPS Sexuality Education Advisory Board (SEAB), composed of scholars, parents, caregivers, community members, educators, and health professionals, carefully reviewed multiple sex education curriculum options. Their goal was to evaluate each option for age-appropriateness, accuracy, and alignment with scholar needs, ensuring scholars receive comprehensive, respectful, and evidence-based instruction.

After review and discussion, the SEAB is recommending the addition of Rights, Respect, & Responsibility curriculum, and the updated version of Puberty: The Wonder Years to our current GRPS instruction.
