Dear Ottawa Hills High School Families:

As we round out a successful school year, we are already looking to what's ahead for the next. We are excited to share some changes to our leadership team aimed at inspiring and uplifting the achievement of our scholars across the district. These changes are part of a larger shift in leadership throughout GRPS and we’re excited to see the new heights we can achieve.

Stephanie Davis will transition from her role as principal to serve on the district leadership team as the College and Career Navigator. Mrs. Davis has a passion for scholar success, and she will have an impact on all our scholars as part of our administrative team.

Dr. Tim Mabin will take on the role of Ottawa Hills High School Principal. Dr. Mabin is currently serving as principal at Shawmut Hills School where he built a playbook on increasing enrollment and engaging the community. His thoughtful and disciplined leadership style fosters a strong sense of belonging for our scholars, staff, and community. We are thrilled to see the impact he will have on the Ottawa Hills High School community.

Dr. Mabin has shared his excitement about joining the leadership team at Ottawa Hills High School.

“I have dreamed of serving our GRPS community as a high school principal.  Ottawa Hills is home to me.  I desire for the students who we serve to have a high school experience that appreciates their backgrounds, pushes them to excel, and supports them to be successful in striving toward their dreams. I look forward to working with our entire school community to make that a reality for our students.” – Dr. Tim Mabin

We’re also excited to share that April Chambliss and Vanessa Allen will join the Ottawa Hills team as Assistant Principals. Ms. Chambliss and Mrs. Allen both have deep connections to the OHHS community. Ms. Allen served as an assistant principal at Ottawa Hills in the past and is known for her passionate leadership style and her knowledge of GRPS. Ms. Chambliss was born and raised on the southeast side of Grand Rapids. Her quiet strength and focus on equity will make her a tremendous asset to the Ottawa Hills High School leadership team.

Joseph Metts will join the Southwest Elementary team as Assistant Principal. The team at Southwest will benefit from his scholar-first mindset, his strength as a team player who is always looking for ways to support our children and create new opportunities for their futures. Assistant Principal Colleen Holmes who has served our scholars with passion over the years has shared her plans to pursue opportunities outside of GRPS. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors. The search for her replacement is underway.

These transitions go into effect next school year and are aimed at making us stronger and preparing our team to take Grand Rapids Public Schools to the next level — for our scholars, for our community, and for our future.

Please connect with Executive Director Bridget Cheney if you have any questions about these changes.

Here’s to a strong finish to a great school year!

Sincerely,

Leadriane Roby, Ph.D.
Superintendent
