This July, we're inviting the GRPS community to help create something truly special.
The Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation, in partnership with Grand Rapids Public Schools and the Gerald R. Ford Academic Center community, is building a brand-new, fully inclusive playground designed so students of all abilities can play, learn, and thrive together.
We hope you'll join us during our community playground build. A professional construction crew will lead the project and provide guidance throughout the build, while volunteers will assist with a variety of hands-on tasks that will help bring this incredible playground to life.
Volunteer Build Dates
Wednesday, July 15 – Friday, July 17
Gerald R. Ford Academic Center (851 Madison Ave SE)
Whether you can join us for a few hours or an entire shift, your time will make a lasting impact on our students. No construction experience is necessary. Volunteers will assist with tasks such as assembling playground equipment, spreading mulch, landscaping, painting, organizing materials, and more. Training, supervision, and all necessary tools will be provided on site.
A few things to know:
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.
- Closed-toe shoes are required (work boots are encouraged), and long pants are recommended.
- Please bring a refillable water bottle.
- Family-friendly volunteer opportunities will be available on Thursday and Friday for those volunteering with children.
Thank you for everything you do to support GRPS students. We hope you'll consider being part of this exciting project as we create a space where every child can play, connect, and belong.
