GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — Grand Rapids Public Schools has canceled all classes for Wednesday, January 10, 2024, because of the inclement winter weather.
Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby called the first snow day of the 2023-24 school year after district leaders evaluated road conditions early Wednesday morning.
“These decisions all come down to safety and with the rapid snow accumulation and icing that have occurred, we felt it would be in the best interest of our scholars to cancel classes for the day,” Dr. Roby said. “We are hopeful that conditions will improve and that we will see our scholars in class for the remainder of the week.”
The district’s administrative offices will remain open as scheduled.
As of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, all after-school high school athletic events are slated to continue as scheduled. Scholar-athletes with specific questions about Wednesday after-school sports events should contact their coach.
Update: GRPS rescheduled the Ottawa Hills and Union High School basketball games in advance of the anticipated snowstorm. Games originally scheduled to be played on Friday, January 12 have now been moved to Thursday, January 11.
