GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Grand Rapids Public Schools will hold its second community-wide school safety forum of the year on Wednesday evening at GRPS University.
The topic of this week's forum is mental health and the impact it can have on our youth.
School safety is more than security cameras and locked doors. Caring for the mental health of our young people can play a significant role in keeping our children safe inside and outside of the classroom.
The community discussion entitled “Sound Minds, Safe Schools” will be held on Wednesday, June 28. The meeting will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at GRPS University, located at 1400 Fuller Ave. NE. Mental health experts will be on hand as we discuss this challenging topic.
“We’ve heard loud and clear from our staff, scholars, and the broader community that an increased focus on the mental health of our children needs to be embraced,” GRPS Chief of Staff & Executive Director of Public Safety and School Security Larry Johnson said. “Meeting the wholistic needs of our scholars is our first strategic theme, and that’s what this meeting is about.”
