GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – It’s an experience that is uniquely GRPS: scholars going to school every day in a zoo. For one of the school’s teachers, it’s why he loves his job.
“I enjoy working with the students and providing opportunities for them to experience unique learning opportunities,” John Fordney explained.
Fordney’s journey with GRPS began at Westwood Middle School, where he honed his classroom management skills and developed engaging teaching strategies. The transition to John Ball Zoo School allowed him to continue his mission of challenging students while holding them to high standards.
“I have continued to challenge and hold high expectations for my scholars while working at John Ball Zoo School,” he said.
Fordney’s dedication to excellence is evident in his lasting impact on his scholars. He believes that his role as a teacher goes beyond academics, shaping students into independent, self-guided learners prepared for future success.
“I offer high-quality instruction while having high expectations for all of my scholars,” Fordney said. “The majority of my students leave my classroom as independent and self-guided learners.”
Through his commitment and passion, Fordney exemplifies the values of GRPS, making him a true champion for education.
