GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — For Cara Williams Gardner, teaching is about building relationships, nurturing confidence and helping scholars see their place in the world.
A teacher at CA Frost Environmental Science Academy, she has spent 26 years in education helping scholars grow.
“After 26 years in education, it is still incredibly rewarding to see students develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning,” she said. “Teaching at CA Frost, I especially enjoy connecting learning to the environment and the real world, helping students see that they can make a positive impact on their community and the world around them.”
As a graduate of GRPS, her connection to the district is personal.
“I chose to work at Grand Rapids Public Schools because I am a proud graduate of City High School and grew up in Grand Rapids,” she said. “GRPS has always been a meaningful part of my life and returning to serve the community that helped shape who I am feels both personal and purposeful. Working in the district allows me to give back to the city and schools that invested in me, while supporting students from diverse backgrounds and helping them see the same possibilities for their futures.”
In her classroom and beyond, Williams Gardner strives to leave a lasting impression on scholars and colleagues alike.
“In my role, I feel I make a lasting impact by helping students develop the skills, confidence, and mindset they need to be successful learners and thoughtful citizens,” she said. “Beyond academic growth, I strive to model kindness, perseverance, and respect for others and the environment. I also feel proud of the impact I’ve made by mentoring colleagues and contributing to a positive school culture that supports both students and staff.”
Through decades of service, Williams Gardner continues to champion scholar growth, environmental stewardship and a strong sense of community.
