Scholars at Frost participate in an environmental science lab, better known as E-lab, twice per week. E-lab provides scholars opportunities to participate in project-based learning curriculum that encourages their natural curiosity and motivation to learn about environmental topics. Scholars in every grade participate in outdoor learning experiences to extend and enrich what they are learning in the classroom. These experiences include sledding, hiking, nature journaling, stream studies, orienteering, greenhouse management, wildlife observations, and overnight camping.
We have incorporated distance learning for years and are poised to be a leader in the district as a blended model of new technologies and old practices, giving our students the best of both worlds. Our 1-to-1 student technology device approach ensures that every student has the opportunity to learn inside and outside the classroom.
CA Frost Elementary is located on the northwest side of Grand Rapids. We are fortunate to have Blandford Nature Center in our backyard where our scholars can explore, learn, and develop an appreciation for nature.

Summer 2025 marks the busiest season yet for the Reimagine GRPS with Us! initiative, with transformative projects underway across the district to create more inspiring and safer spaces for scholars and staff.

“I wouldn’t even consider the work that I do a job,” YMCA Camp Counselor Ja’Koveon Perkins said. “It's really enjoyable.”

In the summer of 1969, Nina Lewis-Sleet became the first black woman named to the Grand Rapids Board of Education.
