GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – The GRPS Citywide Art Show, the largest student art show in Michigan, is now open in downtown Grand Rapids.
Art from 2,000 scholars at every GRPS school is on display at Western Michigan University Grand Rapids, 200 Ionia Ave. SW. The gallery, located on the fifth floor, is open at no cost on weekdays through April 30. Hours are 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday.
“It's a big celebration of creativity,” said GRPS Director of Fine Arts Dan Van Til. “It's a celebration of things they've learned in the classroom.”
“It's a really good way to be able to show off as many students as we can,” said Thomas DeBoer, who teaches art at Shawmut Hills Academy and Sibley Elementary. “It's nice for the kids to be able to kind of experience all these different things through different mediums.”
Attendees can bid on art while attending the show.
“There's so many different styles of people here and just so many cool art pieces,” said Maggie, a scholar at Gerald R. Ford Academic Center. “It's just a really cool environment.”
GRPS would like to thank our partners at Western Michigan University for providing the space for the annual art show.
“This is why we're in Grand Rapids - being able to connect with our local schools,” explained Western Michigan University Vice Provost and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We just want them to have a great experience here.”
