GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) - An exciting community resource is coming soon to Harrison Park Academy. A new health center will be opening in 2025.

The Harrison Health Center will be a partnership between Grand Rapids Public Schools and Catherine’s Health Center. A $180,000 annual grant fund has been awarded to GRPS by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' Child and Adolescent Health Center program. The initial funding will be used to renovate space within the building into a health center that will include exam rooms, a behavioral health office, a registration area, and a lab area.

GRPS students and community members between the ages of 3 and 21 will have access to medical and behavioral health services at school, regardless of the ability to pay. Parent or caregiver consent will be required to receive services.

The medical provider will offer services including well-child visits, sports physicals, immunizations, and assessment and treatment for acute illness or injuries. The behavioral health provider will provide individual and group therapy for those needing mental health counseling services.

"We are excited to offer these important services within the walls of the school," said GRPS Director of Health Services Kim Baron. "This location will eliminate barriers to accessing these services including transportation, cost, and hours of missed work or school to go to appointments in other locations."
