Museum School Summer Workshop

The Grand Rapids Public Museum School and founding partners are excited to announce the 4th annual Museum School Summer Workshop!

Participants in this 3-day experience will explore the integrated best practices of place-based education, design thinking, and museum mindset. Facilitators will share expertise and strategies to unlock the power of authentic projects and community engagement. Discover the meaning of the Museum School motto, “The community is our classroom!”

The summer workshop is free and includes a daily stipend. Participants receive MDE SCECHs. Applicants are encouraged to attend with a small team from their school community!

The 2022-2024 summer workshops were very successful, serving a total of 76 educators from 35 schools. See what educators had to say:

  • This workshop was the best professional development I've had the privilege of attending. It was incredibly well laid out. The balance of hands-on experience, direct instruction, collaboration, and project work time was so great. As we went through the week we had time to dream, learn about opportunities, and then put in action with planning.
  • I have had the best first weeks at school that I have had in my teaching career, and I have to give credit to [this training]. I have had so much more enthusiasm and been able to create some awesome lessons and activities using what I learned…I have been recommending it to so much of my staff, I gained so much from attending.
  • Absolutely LOVED this opportunity.  I have been teaching for 27 years and this ranks very high up in my PD experiences. Thank you for facilitating such an excellent and meaningful experience, I am looking forward to integrating everything I've learned into my curriculum.
