GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Scholars and staff at Coit Creative Arts Academy were able to help Reimagine the future of their new playground.
Coit Creative Arts Academy is one of the first GRPS schools receiving upgrades as part of the November 2023 voter-approved bond.
On February 14 Sinclair Recreation and Great Lakes Recreation Company both made playground presentations to scholars and staff at Coit Creative Arts Academy. Based on feedback, GRPS selected Sinclair Recreation for the project.
The fully-accessible playground will include interlocking rubber tiles and a new turf soccer field. Preliminary plans call for multiple play areas, an outdoor stage, swings, four square, and basketball courts. Asphalt between the playground and school building will also be replaced.
The playground upgrades will be completed during the summer of 2024, before Coit welcomes additional scholars coming from East Leonard Elementary in the fall of 2024.
The Board of Education Finance Committee recommended the proposal for approval on February 27. The proposal will be up for final approval from the Board of Education at the March 4 board meeting.
