GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) — The Grand Rapids Board of Education is taking some of the remaining school board meetings for this school year into the community.

The meeting scheduled for Monday, April 17 will take place at Ottawa Hills High School beginning at 6:30 p.m. A special meeting of the board’s legislative committee is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m., just prior to the board meeting, and will also take place at OHHS.

The board meeting scheduled for Monday, May 15 will take place at Southwest Middle High School - Academia Bilingüe at 6:30 p.m.

“While we hope our entire community feels welcomed at all of our board meetings at the district administration building, we recognize that holding meetings in other parts of the city may allow us to hear voices we might not hear from otherwise,” Grand Rapids Board of Education President Kimberley Williams said. “The idea is that taking our meetings on the road sends a message to our community of the important role we all play in ensuring our schools are performing at their best.”

The board is also planning to hold more meetings at schools in other parts of the city when school resumes after summer recess.
