The Michigan Department of Education recently released the graduation rates for the 2019- 2020 school year. For the ninth consecutive year, Grand Rapids Public Schools saw an increase in districtwide graduation rates.
Grand Rapids Public Schools met and exceeded the state graduation goal of 80%. In addition, GRPS’ drop-out rate of 7.56% is under the state average of 7.77%. The numbers are impressive when broken down further:
- All Schools – All Students: 36.36 percentage point increase since 2012 (currently 80.92%)
- African American Students: 31.67 percentage point increase since 2012 (currently 72.26%)
- Hispanic/Latino Students: 42.02 percentage point increase since 2012 (currently 84.64%)
- Asian Students: 57.50 percentage point increase since 2012 (currently >95.00%)
- White Students: 33.22 percentage point increase since 2012 (currently 86.58%)
- Economically Disadvantaged Students: 38.76 percentage point increase since 2012 (currently 78.83%)
- English Learners: 46.46 percentage point increase since 2012 (currently 79.07%)
City High Middle School, CA Frost Environmental Science Middle High School and Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy had a 100% graduation rate in 2020.
“The significant increase in our graduation rates is symbolic of the overall transformation success story that is gaining GRPS state and national attention,” said Dr. Leadriane Roby, Superintendent of Schools.
