GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- Brad Lundvick, the Principal of CA Frost Environmental Science Middle High School and Zoo School, has made it his mission to create a thriving, inclusive community for scholars and staff.

“We’ve really been able to establish a really strong staff family atmosphere,” said Lundvick. “That’s one of our core values and kind of what we drive on here as a Frost family.”

After earning his undergraduate degree, Lundvick found teaching positions scarce and decided to pursue a master’s degree in educational leadership. That decision opened doors to roles at Union High School and Ottawa Hills High School. His career eventually led him to CA Frost, where he found a growing program.

“When I came here [as assistant principal] we added the 11th grade,” Lundvick explained. “The first graduating class was my first year as principal here.”

Lundvick’s leadership philosophy focuses on helping scholars achieve their personal and academic goals.

“Whatever their goals are, as a family, as a unit, or as an individual, I want to best support them as much as I can,” he explained. “If they have their heart set on something and they want to get there, I want to help them find that path that best fits.”

CA Frost offers unique opportunities as an environmental science school, something Lundvick is particularly proud of.

“We definitely have scholars that are really in love with the outdoors and the environmental science concepts,” he said. “Students get to participate and learn outside.”

These experiences leave a lasting impact on scholars.

“We’re happy that they’re able to take what we’re doing here within our classrooms, within our school community, and build that past graduation and into their own lives,” he said. “In education, we’re not here for the initial. It’s that ten years later down the road that scholars are coming back and speaking of those fond memories they have. It keeps families coming back into GRPS and specifically CA Frost and Zoo.”
