“GRPS Champions” is a web series published every Monday celebrating the incredible work of GRPS team members.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) -- In the bustling world of Grand Rapids Public Schools, Ronnie Sluiter, head secretary for the facilities and operations team, stands out as a true champion.

Known for her unwavering dedication, Sluiter thrives on helping others and building strong connections with her colleagues, making her an essential part of the operations team.

“There’s never a dull moment in operations! What I enjoy most is helping others and working with an incredible team,” Sluiter shares. “We’ve built a special bond as a work family, and I feel truly blessed to have these people in my life.”

Her journey with GRPS began with a desire to return to a community-centered environment. Having previously worked as a teacher’s aide and secretary, she was drawn back to the school setting.

“Schools hold a special place in my heart because of their incredible impact on children and the community,” she explains.

Each day brings a wide variety of tasks - from handling payroll and managing building use to overseeing equipment maintenance and preserving historical records. She embraces this diversity with enthusiasm, always willing to go the extra mile to support her colleagues.

“I feel I’m an integral part of our operations team at GRPS. I believe a secretary can make or break the atmosphere in any office,” she says with pride. “People know they can come to me for anything, and I strive to create a supportive environment.”

Her commitment to her work family and the district is evident in everything she does.

“To make a department and school successful, we need to function as a supportive, caring family. That’s why I work so hard to exemplify those characteristics every day in my little operations world,” she adds.

Ronnie Sluiter’s passion, dedication, and positive spirit make her not only a vital part of the facility and operations team, but also a true GRPS champion.
