“GRPS Champions” is a web series published every Monday celebrating the incredible work of GRPS team members.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – Two dedicated chefs at Westwood Middle School, Carolyn Carter and Robin Bieschke, are making a meaningful impact in the lives of scholars every day - not just through the meals they serve, but through the connections they build.

For Carolyn Carter, the best part of her job is clear. “The scholars, of course,” she shared. “The staff is great. I love seeing scholars’ faces when we serve what they love to eat.”

Beyond the cafeteria, Carter strives to make a difference with her positive outlook.

“I hope that comes through to the kids,” she explained.

Robin Bieschke echoes Carter’s passion for connecting with scholars.

“The energy of the scholars, putting a smile on their faces every day, letting them know I care and am glad to see them every day, that’s what I enjoy most,” she said.

Over the years, Bieschke’s impact has been felt far beyond the cafeteria.

“I’ve been told by former students, now adults, how they remember me always being so nice and understanding,” she reflects. “That has always stuck with me, how such a little thing can impact a child. I want to be someone they know is glad to see them and cares.”

Together, Carter and Bieschke exemplify the heart of GRPS: fostering a nurturing and supportive environment where every scholar is valued.
