The following letter was shared with parents Monday night after a broken fan in a utility room at Ridgemoor Park Montessori caused smoke and tripped the building's fire alarm system.
Dear Ridgemoor Park Montessori Families,
I am writing to inform you about an incident that occurred at our school tonight that prompted the response of the Fire Department..
Earlier this evening, the fire alarm was triggered after an air-handling motor in our mechanical room malfunctioned and caused smoke in the building.
There was no fire, and the damage was contained to the motor itself.
Our Facilities team will be on-site tomorrow morning to replace the broken motor. This situation is isolated and poses no safety concern for our scholars and staff.
The heating system is working, and our team will ensure ventilation so that any residual odor resulting from this incident is cleared.
I'd like to thank the Grand Rapids Fire Department and the GRPS Facilities team for the prompt response to our school after hours.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this incident, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Sincerely,
Julie Fogg Reyers
