GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (GRPS) – In her first ‘Reimagine’ Vlog of 2025, Superintendent Dr. Leadriane Roby outlined key priority areas that will shape the district’s initiatives in the coming year.

A central focus for 2025 is the ongoing implementation of the Reimagine GRPS Facility Plan, which includes several major projects aimed at modernizing learning environments. Among the highlights is the new, renovated campus for Southeast Career Pathways, set to open this fall at Sigsbee School. Additional renovations are planned, including significant upgrades to the performing arts centers at Innovation Central and Ottawa Hills high schools.

Scholar safety remains a top priority. Planned security enhancements for 2025 include the installation of new secured entryways at Westwood Middle School and Dickinson Academy, expansion of the district-wide visitor management system, and the addition of cameras in more schools.

Filling teacher vacancies continues to be a major focus. With more classrooms fully staffed than a year ago, GRPS is ramping up its recruitment efforts. This includes a revitalized Grow Your Own initiative designed to attract and support future educators from within the community, ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified and diverse teaching professionals.

Efforts to improve transportation services are also well underway. Dean Transportation buses are now on time 93% of the time. In 2025, Dean will launch a pilot program featuring buses equipped with cameras and tablets for better route management and attendance tracking. Additionally, GRPS will introduce its first-ever electric buses, marking a significant step toward sustainability.

Stay tuned for regular updates on these exciting priorities as GRPS continues to create better learning environments and opportunities for all scholars in 2025.
